Europaeum Programme European History and Civilisation (MA)

The Europaeum Programme: European History and Civilisation was a specialisation of the MA History at Leiden University offered in collaboration with Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne and the University of Oxford. Following an investigation by the Dutch Inspectorate of Education, Leiden University has decided to end this specialisation from the academic year 2024-2025 onwards.
The investigation concerned both the legality of the additional financial contribution for the Oxford trimester and the legality of the cooperation design. In October 2023, the Inspectorate concluded that the specialisation does not comply with the legal requirements of the Dutch Higher Education and Research Act (WHW).
It is important to note that the investigation did not concern the quality of the study programme. The Europaeum Programme: European History and Civilisation is accredited as part of the MA History and degrees issued to (former) students were legitimately awarded and remain valid.
